A three-dimensional survey using a ground laser scanner was conducted on the existing Ryukakuji Iwaya tumulus to determine its shape and size, and a comparison was made by applying the construction conditions of each period.  As a result, it was found that construction in ancient times required about three times as much time and 46 times as many workers as in the present day.  The fact that the site has remained intact after more than 1,000 years, with a few exceptions, suggests that appropriate and good compaction techniques were used.
